As I’m sure you are already aware, San Diego is an absolutely wonderful place to attend business school. So much to do, so little time. However, occasionally, you just want to venture out and explore the surrounding area. Fortunately, within a half a day’s drive there are other fun and entertaining must sees for every student.
Imagine a fun weekend on a tranquil island with beautiful beaches, exceptional snorkeling and scuba diving and outstanding nightlife. You can feel the romance in the air. Accommodations range from camping in the uninhabited parts of the island for the adventurous to luxury hotel suites for those looking to be pampered. Bring your walking shoes, or take a golf cart taxi, be advised, there are no cars on this island. Catalina has it all – you can find everything from a zipline adventure to exquisite shopping. Leave on a Friday (because you will rarely have a class on a Friday and get back on Sunday with plenty of time to complete that homework assignment). Catalina is a must see for every Rady student.
Beauty abounds at this National Park. You’ll probably want to time this trip to check out the park in October/November or March/April for the best weather. Mammoth sized rocks and beautiful desert landscapes are everywhere- ensure you bring your camera. The best accommodations are under the stars in one of the many campsites located throughout the park. A rock climbing lesson from one of the many adventure companies in the area is another great way to spend the day. Whether you are just looking to sightsee, or climb a 5.10 rockface, Joshua Tree has something for everyone. Ensure you visit at least once while you’re at Rady. You won’t regret it.
Skiing in Southern California? Yes, you can. Admittedly, the slopes aren’t as steep at Vail, but for a quick weekend to get your snow ski on, it’s tough to beat. Great nightlife and good friends around the fire pit at night- what a great way to make some amazing memories with your classmates.
